Ford, Brian (John)(1939- )
Biologist, writer,
and broadcaster, born in Corsham, Wiltshire, S England, UK. He
studied at Cardiff University, and became a research
biologist, his contributions including studies of the
development of life from prebiotic molecules in outer space,
plant physiology, hemostatic mechanisms, microbial ecology,
and the history of science. A pioneer of holism in science,
his publications include Microbiology and Food (1970),
Cult of the Expert (1982), Leeuwenhoek Legacy
(1990), and First Encyclopedia of Science (1993). He
was founding editor of Science Diary (1967), and
Biology History (1988), and he created several
programmes for radio and television, such as Science
Now and Food for Thought.
