The Village of Eastrea, Cambridge
This island settlement has been active
since the bronze age. Only since the draining of the fens in the
18th century has Eastrea remained joined to the mainland.
Eastrea boasted a large church (until the
18th century) and the village was inhabited by the Romans. Details
of the village (photographs, maps, drawings, etc) will be posted
here.
Meanwhile, the domain 'eastrea.net'
has been registered for the exclusive use of village residents.
This would allow the following:
- expand to a full village web
site
- enable ALL villagers to have
their own web page
- establish an 'Eastrea' e-mail
system
- post ideas, news and information
- investigate local family
history
- advertise services or goods,
etc
For the time being, e-mail may be sent
to: postmaster@eastrea.net
but in due course villagers would be able to use a computer in
our planned village hall for all their internet needs. For Whittlesey
news, click onto the Whittlesey
Web page. Eastrea is also listed on the Local
UK site.
